Our Mission
The WRCC exists to facilitate the overall development of the Region by effectively co-ordinating, monitoring and evaluating plans and programmes of the Ministries, Departments, Agencies (MDAs), Metropolitan, Municipal, District Assemblies (MMDAs), and Non-Governmental Organisations (NGOs), in order to improve the quality of life of the people.

The Western Regional Co-ordinating Council (WRCC) is the highest decision-making body at the regional level, representing the political and administrative machinery of Government. The WRCC has the mandate to monitor, co-ordinate and evaluate the performance of the twenty-two (22) Regional Departments, the fourteen (14) Metropolitan, Municipal and District Assemblies (MMDAs) as well as other Public institutions/Agencies in the Region with the view to ensuring effective and efficient service-delivery, and overall development.

According to section 146 of Act 462, the RCC is chaired by the Regional Minister. The Regional Co-ordinating Director is the Secretary to the RCC. He is also the Chief Director to the Minister as stated in sub section 4 of section 146 of Act 462. The RCC has a Regional Planning Co-ordinating Unit (RPCU) as required by section 143 of Act 462. It is responsible for co-ordinating, monitoring, evaluating and harmonisation of District Development Plans and activities of Decentralised Departments. The RPCU comprises of 11 Heads of Department of the RCC in line with the National Development Planning Commission (NDPC) guidelines.

Regional Profile
The present Western Region retained its name after the creation of the Western North Region vide Constitutional Instrument (CI) 117 from the then Western Region in February, 2019. It is one of the sixteen (16) administrative Regions in Ghana with Sekondi as the administrative capital.
The maps below depict the Western Region in the national context and its boundary with the Western North Region.
The Region is bordered in the North by the Western North Region, in the East by the Central Region and in the West by part of the Western North Region and La Côte d’Ivoire. On the Southern part, it is bordered by the Gulf of Guinea (the Atlantic Ocean).
